#BoIR : Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982
Dear, dear, dear.
We already with our 3rd #BoIR already, alhamdulillah. MCO really pushed me to read as much books that I have. Alhamdulillah ya Allah for this free time! (:
Today, I am going to share with you, a book that is actually originated from South Korea. Kim Ji Young, Born 1982 is beautifully written by Cho Nam-Joo, who is a former scriptwriter for TV programmes.
The title itself makes me pick up this book. I wondered, what happens to Kim Jiyoung who born in 1982?
I look at the back cover of the book. There is this word that leave me whoa, hold that!
"Kim Jiyoung is a part of any women in the world"
Is that giving meaning that the book may also said like, Siti Nurhaliza, Born 1979 or Farhatul Fairuzah, Born 2000?
After reading the book, I would say YES.
Yes, this story can be to any women's name. Yes, this can happen to female any years they born. It will still hits them.
And that is sooo disheartening :'(
Kim Jiyoung is just a normal woman, a mother, a wife, a daughter. She have ambitions and dreams, just like men. But the way that this world treat Kim Jiyoung has crushed her to pieces, make her suffer with depression.
The main theme of this book is sexism and misogyny. Every scenes that being portrayed in this novel, I wish it is just a fantasy, a fiction. But unfortunately, no. It is a reality.
Kim Jiyoung, Born in 1982 has being adapted to film on 2019, starring by Jung Yu-Mi and Gong Yoo. I was motivated to finish this book because I want to watch this movie right after finishing it.
I much more loving the ending of the novel, rather than the movie. The movie has a happy ending, a vice versa of the ending of the book.
Not that I love sad ending, but the novel leaves me to think. What I can do to change this? How would I do differently to see a much more bright future?
Till then,
x
